WeAre Inclusive Youth Dance Company
Our inclusive youth dance company WeAre, meet once a week at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
Within sessions, dancers build dance skills, confidence, friendships and are provided with the opportunity to create work for performance.
WeAre have performed at such events as FRESH, U.Dance and Expressions. Our goal for the company is to raise the profile of accessible youth dance, and show that young dancers with learning disabilities and autism can create high quality work.
In 2018, they created a screen dance film called TELLTALE in collaboration with Pocket Projects and musician James Whittle, which has been screened at the BFI and Royal Opera House to name but a few places!
In 2020, WeAre responded creatively to the Coronavirus lockdown by creating two brand new films Dandelion and Scattered. Dandelion was chosen as a winner of Yorkshire Dance's FRESH Challenge and Dandelion was selected to be screened at One Dance UK's U.Dance Digital 2020.
Testimonials
My daughter loves MeshDance and has been with them for around 4 years. Mesh have led the group through their Bronze Art Award, something she is very proud of, produced award winning films and got the young people involved in local and national dance productions. She has loved every minute and her confidence has blossomed through working with MeshDance.
MeshDance is run by a fantastic team of enthusiastic staff. There is a nurturing, supportive ethos within the classes which helps develop a wide variety of experiences and skills within the young people who attend. The classes are a really important part of my daughter's life. They help her maintain her physical and mental well-being, learn new skills, challenge her to push herself and help her to make and maintain friendships.
